Question by SethH: How well will HP handhelds work for MP3 and podcasting playback?
Being fairly new to this “portable audio” world, I want to be able to have the functionality of an iPod, but with a PDA (which I have to buy anyway). HP says they handle Mp3 files, but I’m not sure if there are aspects of functionality (i.e., compared to the standard set by iPods) that I should be concerned about.

first of, you cant compare the HP devices with an iPod. they are not the same. if your primary function would be listening to music and podcasts then get an ipod Nano, if you want the same fuctionality but with a video podcast then get the video ipods.

HP devices can play music (mp3, wma, ogg) and movies (mpeg, wmv, ogg, 3gp and covenverted dvds) and have desktop PC functionality as well. depending on the model you get you can also use it as a mobile and can connect to the internet using wifi, bluetooth, EDGE or 3G. so you can surf, download and get your email on the go.

so if its just protable audio go with the ipod or other similar devices from creative, iriver, samsung and sandisk.

for the total package get the HP6500 series pocket pc.

cheers
