If you are among the many people who own a website or a blog and have been wondering how to earn money through them, or if you have been looking for ways to make a profit via the internet then joining an affiliate network might be the thing for you. Basically, an affiliate network is like a middleman that acts in between the affiliate publishers and the merchants who provide the various affiliate programs. The network would allow publishers to find the suitable merchant programs for their blog or website and at the same time also helps the merchants in reaching their target market through their publishers. The network provides merchants with various tools such as a tracking technology which allows them to follow up on their publishers, payment processing, reporting tools as well as access to a large database of able and willing publishers. An affiliate, on the other hand, is provided with payment aggregation, reporting tools, various advertisings tools such as banners and text links. But the best bit here is that they have access to various merchants looking for publishers. Merchants can range from companies selling gadgets, clothing, and shoes and so on.

The networks are free to join if you are a website or blog owner and intend on becoming a publisher whilst merchants would have to pay a fee. There are traditional networks that would require a kind of initial fee that would cover the maintenance and setup fees but this differs from one network to the other. But what is common is the fact that these networks often charge the merchants with a certain percentage of the commission which are paid to the affiliates for their efforts.
